Our Story

Lighthouse Baptist Church began in April of 2013 under the ministry of Pastor Carlos Paim. With the tremendous influx of workers from all over the world who had moved to Christchurch for the rebuild after the earthquakes, Lighthouse Baptist quickly became a very multi-cultural church. For the next two years, Carlos served and loved the people of Lighthouse and the people of Christchurch.

In May of 2015, Carlos resigned as the pastor and Lighthouse began the long search for a new pastor. Little did anyone know that God was preparing a young family from the USA to come and lead Lighthouse. Pastor Sam Hutchens and his family were seeking an opportunity to pastor, and through the providence of God, became connected with Lighthouse. Over the next couple of years, God worked out all of the details, and in January of 2018, the Hutchens' moved to Christchurch with a desire to love God's people, to love Christchurch, and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with all who will listen.

Lighthouse is a vibrant faith family with many young families seeking to closely follow and emulate their Saviour. We seek to know Christ and to make Him known, both here in Christchurch, and around the world. Lighthouse currently supports eleven missionaries financially all around the world, and we have several seasons of special outreach here in Christchurch each year.

We love having visitors, and do our best to make them feel absolutely welcome! Whether church is brand new to you or not, we would be honoured to have you visit with us this Sunday!
